Christine Griffith Lifetime Volunteer – Carol Roehrig
Last year we awarded the very first Christine Griffith Lifetime Volunteer award, named after a woman who showed us all how to lead through her service to the cause. This year’s Christine Griffith Lifetime Volunteer award goes to a woman who has dedicated has persevered the odds both through her fight with breast cancer but also through her tenacious spirit helped to revitalize the Affiliate and our Race. While this individual was finishing up her breast cancer treatments and still running her company, she accepted the role of Race chair. So many held great respect for her efforts after that first Race that there is now a Thriver Award named after her. Through her focus and determination she helped to strengthen the Affiliate through the recruitment of key community leaders. After her time as Race chair, she served on the Komen Baton Rouge board of directors. If that wasn’t enough when she finished serving on the board of directors, she accepted the role of grants chair where she led the Affiliate in strengthening the grants program. There are so many things we can say about our recipient of this year’s Christine Griffith Lifetime Volunteer award but none would mean nothing without saying “thank you” Carol Roehrig. Thank you for your time, your perseverance, energy and leadership for almost a decade.
